I am trying to add my Itemized Deductions to my Ky State Return but TurboTax will not allow me to add them. How do I add them to the return?

Add them in your federal return and the information will flow to the state return.

I have all of my itemized deductions added to the Federal return but they did not transfer to my State return. Thanks for the suggestion!

The itemized deductions that you are reporting may not be allowed on the Kentucky income tax return.

Kentucky does not accept all the itemized deductions that are reported on the IRS Schedule A Itemized Deductions.

In addition, itemized deductions must first exceed $3,160, the Kentucky standard deduction.

In TurboTax Premier Desktop, I am able to report charitable contributions on both the Federal 1040 and the Kentucky resident 740 tax returns.

Review Kentucky Individual Income Tax Resident Instructions here.  Itemized Deductions starts on page 29.

When testing this I received the itemized deductions on the Kentucky (KY) return (image below).  If you already paid for your state return do not delete it, however if not, you can delete it and then add it back to start over.

NOTE: It may be important for you to know the following information about your Kentucky (KY) return that was recently announced.

    • KY Department of Revenue-My Taxes -- Kentucky's Department of Revenue is switching to a new computer system. In order to do that they have shut down virtually all tax-related systems until March 14th. This means that Kentucky return, business OR individual, will NOT be acknowledged until the new system comes online. Returns can be e-filed, and they will be processed after the shutdown ends.

Also you can review your federal and state return using the steps below.

From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)

    1. Select Tax Tools
    2. On the drop-down select Tools
    3. On the pop-up menu titled “Tools Center”, select View Tax Summary
    4. On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040

For TurboTax Desktop, change to 'Forms' and review the forms

I am using the Turbo Tax downloaded version. I do not have any of those drop down menus on this version but thanks for trying!
