Question

How do I cancel an amended federal return if it's been rejected?

I was amending the federal because of an addition to the state withholdings on my W-2. The federal was amended/accepted but the state was rejected so I reached the maximum amount of attempts to efile the federal. Do I need to cancel the amended federal return that was rejected even though it was accepted at a different point and is corrrect?

If your e-file was rejected, that means that the IRS (or State) didn't accept your tax return because there were errors, so there's nothing to cancel.

I'm not sure if you filed multiple amendments for the same year.  Please clarify.
