Question

I just put down my wife's married name on 1040. Her ITIN doesn't have her married name.

I just mailed my tax return yesterday.  I just realized that I added my wife's married name on my tax return.  Her ITIN doesn't have her married name.  I read somewhere that IRS computer system checks first 4 letters of last name.  My wife has 3 last names now.   For example, Costa Lima Brown, does IRS check first 4 letters on Costa or married name - Brown?  I fear that they may reject my return because I added my wife's married name.

I will have to send a letter and documentation to IRS for name change.

I would wait and see what the IRS does. If they need anything they will mail you a letter.
