Remove Dependent from Californa 540

What is the reason for removing the dependent from the California return? Your dependents are normally the same on the state return as they are on the Federal return. Enter information about dependents in the Federal return. TurboTax will ask more questions in the California section as needed to ensure the California return is correct.

Claiming a child as a dependent generally requires that they live with you for more than half the year, they don't provide more than half of their own financial support and are under the age of 19, or under 24 if a full-time student. Claiming adults as your dependents is allowed if you satisfy similar requirements.
