Question

Where can I see the breakdown of "other withholdings" on my federal taxes?

In the final review of federal taxes I see a breakdown of taxes I have paid, like W-2 withholdings, 1099 withholdings and "other withholdings". I can't figure out where the "other withholdings" are coming from or how they are calculated. It's not an insignificant number so like to know.

Check in the Payments section of the 1040 lines 25-31.  Line 31 is Amount from Schedule 3 Line 15

You can check Schedule 3 and your 1040 tax return with these steps.

    From the left sidebar

    1. Select Tax tools
    2. Hint: You may have to minimize the Federal and State selections
    3. Click Tools
    4. A Menu will pop up
    5. Select View tax summary
    6. On the left panel click Preview my 1040

    To view Schedule 3

    • Scroll to the bottom of the tax return.
    • Schedule 3 will be listed
    • View Part II Other Payments and Refundable Credits.

    Form 1040

    • Scroll back to the top
    • On the second page see Payments
    • This will show the breakdown of tax withholdings and payments
    • Line 31 is from Schedule 3.

    Some Key numbers:

    • 11 Adjusted Gross Income
    • 12 Deductions
    • 15 Taxable income
    • 16 Tax
    • 31 Amount from Schedule 3 Line 15
