    If you have back taxes owed for a prior tax year, the IRS will seize your 2024 tax refund and apply it to the taxes owed.  If the amount satisfies the debt, penalty and interest then the IRS will send you the remainder of the refund.  If the debt is not satisfied then the IRS will send you a bill in the mail to pay the taxes owed.
