2019 Turbo Tax Business Failing to Import 2018 Partners

I just installed 2019 TurboTax Business and it says it imported my 2018 business return.  It displays a Confirm your Business Information which it forces you to visit/edit if there has been a change in owernership.  I tell it "NO" and continue on.  It later asks for me to enter the personal information for the 1st partner which I do but didn't have to do this in years past.  After I do it and go to add a 2nd partner, it asks me again, was there an ownership change in 2019 and I say "NO" then it gives me a RED message saying "To add a new partner, you should acknowledge that there's been a change in ownership."  But there hasn't been a change.  It's not importing the prior partner info from TurboTax Business 2018 and it won't let me add the partners manually.

What's wrong with the SW and why isn't it importing the partner information from 2018's return?

I will bring this to the attention of the board moderators and administrators.

The issue you are experiencing has been reported by at least two other TurboTax Business users.

Thank you.

I have identified this type of problem (2019 Turbo Tax Business imports from 2018 TTB successfully but doesn't pull in all partners) to TurboTax team on 1/12 and provided requested diagnostic file versions for their troubleshooting.  No subsequent reply.  Called again 1/28 have two different reps and supervisors trying to walk through their guides without success.  Explain this appears to be an "undocumented software feature" (aka bug) but phone support to date can only use pre-published guides.  At this point, all previous goodwill Intuit has earned is being consumed and I will soon be looking elsewhere.  Process needs to recognize that customers do identify software problems and not assume all is well.

A mod asked me for screen shots about 4 hours ago and I provided them.  I hope we can get this resolved quickly as I need to get these taxes done and paid around $180 after taxes for their software.

Seems like this could have been better QA'd and tested before publishing this release.  I didn't like spending 30+ minutes getting the screen shots together.

Could you share the phone # you are calling so I can ping them too?

I am having the same issue. I paid $120 plus tax to Costco. I tried calling TurboTax for a resolution, but their automated system is useless. Even though this issue is with TurboTax Business 2019, they want to charge me additional $30 before I can talk to anyone. If I don't get a resolution soon, I am planning to take the software back to Costco for a full refund.

A very frustrated Turbotax Business user.

I hope that this will help.

Or you can go directly to this Contact us page.  Make sure that you report the correct version of the software under Edit.  Explain as completely as you can your problem.

I'm having the same problem with my Subchapter-S shareholder information.  Can't add shareholders without it saying there is a change of business.  Has anyone tried to mannually enter the information?  Or just go ahead with one Shareholder, then go back and change the information?

@LittleP If you have tried all of the suggested workarounds (of which there are not many), then you are probably just better off waiting for an fix, in the form of an update from TurboTax which, hopefully, is coming soon.

@Anonymous_Thanks for your input but what makes you think a fix is in the works?  I need to get my K1 documents out to the organizations partners in the near future.  As far as I know and have heard, TurboTax won't work for my org this year due to this problem.  I have spent hours on the phone with support, sent samples of my tax files but never hear back from anyone at Intuit nor gotten acknowledgement that this is a problem that exists nor that a fix is in the works.

Does anyone on this discussion know of alternative tax prep software packages for small businesses and LLCs?  I have used TurboTax for so many years now I have not kept up with what alternatives might exist.

I know this thread is older now but I was having the same issue and FOUND A SOLUTION after many failed attempts (using the 2019 Home & Business CD software on a Mac.)

When I went to import my 2018 return into the 2019 program it prompted me for my password for the 2018 return.

*Instead of typing in my password I selected "Forgot password" and answered the security question I had set up* The import time took longer this time and sure enough the 2018 info was there!

I immediately tested this method by starting a new return, importing the old return and typing in the password as normal (NOT "forgot password) and just as before it did NOT work this way. (Said it imported everything but nothing showed up.)

Not sure if this is the end-all solution, but I hope this helps other users who are just starting their returns (like me) as well as the developers who might be able to take this as a clue to the underlying issue.

Too late for me. I have found a local tax preparer for less money. Will never go back to Turbotax. They provided no useful assistance.

You are commenting on an old thread. What is the error you are getting and which software are you currently using? @3715992

I am also having the same issue... the 2023 Turbo Tax Business will not import the partners from my 2022 Turbo Tax Business file.  If I try to manually add more than one partner, it tells me I have to choose the option that there was an ownership change (which there was not - everything stayed the same from 2022 to 2023).

I am stuck. How do I get past this issue??

Check your 2022 return for any errors (program errors or input errors).

There have been occasions where a K-1 has been marked as final (or the return has) which would create this issue. Then, try re-transferring the 2022 return.

Otherwise, there have been occasions where users have been forced to re-enter partner/member information from scratch.
