I don't estimate my taxes ever or pay up front tax money for future tax years, so were did the figures in other income tax come from? Is this a error in the desktop program?

It is not an error in the desktop program. Estimates and other taxes paid include:

  1. Estimated taxes paid
  2. Income taxes paid
  3. Sales tax paid
  4. Foreign taxes paid
  5. Credit for AMT paid in prior year

When I sum the 5 items listed as making up the "Other Income Taxes" they only account for 75% of the amount shown.  Is there something else included?

$12,000 is a lot.  I thought maybe we were talking about a couple of dollars.  This is a mistaken entry somewhere and I don't know where it might be.

You need to review your entries and the amounts that you have entered.  Something has been entered for taxes paid that should not be taxes paid.  Estimated taxes is my best guess.  Click on 'Tools' at the top left and then 'My Tax Data' right below that.  Scroll through - that's every entry the computer thinks you made.  Click on the one that matches the amount that you're seeing.

If you can't find it you can generate a code that will let us review your return.  It strips all of the personal information out and just lets us see the numbers.  Click 'Online' at the top left and then 'Send Tax File to Agent.'  Enter the numeric code generated here.

Thank you again @RobertB4444

I found it.  The amount shown as "Other Income Taxes" is the sum of my SSA-1099 and1099-R entries for 2023 Federal withholding plus 1099-R entries for 2023 California State tax Withholding.

Because this was under the TurboTax "Federal Taxes - Deductions and Credits" it did not occur to me to look at  state withholding.

Thank you again for your help and patience.
