I need to add income from form 4835 to a nonresident state (Colorado) income tax return in TurboTax Desktop but can't figure out a way to add a specific state to form 4835, the income is simplying going to my resident state return (Oklahoma). How can I get this income reported on the correct state tax return?

Add Colorado to the Other State Income field in the personal information section.   This will tell TurboTax to generate a nonresident return for CO.    When you go through the CO return, you will tell TurboTax which income belongs to CO.   Everything will go on your resident (OK) return.   Prepare your CO nonresident first, and TurboTax will apply credit to OK for any taxes you pay to CO.

How to add CO to Other State Income and Prepare a nonresident return.

If I created my Oklahoma (resident) return already and then created the Colorado (nonresident) return. How do I most efficiently start over with the Colorado return first and then create the Oklahoma return?

I have CO added, not sure how to get the liability correct for CO.   I went to th OK forms and do not see form 511TX to pull things over to CO.  Please help me with next steps.

Forms mode is not the best way to get the states figured out. Go to step-by-step. Go through CO nonresident return from beginning to end. Be sure income is properly allocated. Let the program compute the tax liability and finish CO completely. Then go to OK and go through OK all the way to pull CO tax liability and information over. The program can't calculate a tax liability without knowing all the facts in the right order.

Once you finish going through your OK return, you should have the credit for CO showing. You should now see the OK 511TX in your list of forms.
