Do you have a W-2 form? You may need to enter the state information from Boxes 15-17 under your W-2 input.
You can also confirm the information in the My info section of the program to ensure you have entered the correct state information under your personal information.

I checked my state of residence and it is correct.
I am doing my taxes online and the information has been filed in except when I go to wrap it up it states "Tpstate must be entered". Is it just the Employer's state ID (box 15)?
Which state are you filing in? And does it give you a specific form that needs the information when you go through the review and get the message regarding the TP state?

Two years later and I'm having the same problem and there's still no answer anywhere online. I try to type "IL" in the box and it just erases what I typed. There's no way to go back, ask for more information, or get help, I'm just stuck here. What the hell?

Please clarify. Are you in a section that is asking for "tpstate"? That would normally be the two-letter abbreviation code for your state. See this thread for more information if this is regarding an Illinois form.
