I have an amount on my W2 box 12a code z that's from a non qual plan - why doesn't turbo tax support this calculation. I read that I have to include in schedule 2 line 17h, but when i do this, my tax liability goes up by the amount entered on schedule 2 line 17h. what do i do with this amount?

Income under a nonqualified deferred compensation plan is subject to an additional 20% tax. When you enter the code Z amount TurboTax will automatically carry it to the proper schedule and assess the tax for you.
