2024 Sales Tax Deduction OR State and Local Income Tax: Does one make a difference on social security benefits

Can you tell me if it makes a difference to use the California sales tax deduction over using the state and local income tax taken from income?  I am on social security benefits.   I've entered the figures both ways and the refund still comes out the same.   The sales tax deduction is higher than the amount of taxes taken from income.

Taxpayers have to itemize their deductions to claim the State and Local Tax deduction or or the Sales Tax deduction.  Generally. the State and Local Tax deduction is more advantageous to taxpayers instead of the Sales Tax deduction. If your refund is the same both ways, you may not have enough deductions to itemize.
