ARE CAR REGISTRATION FEES TAX DEDUCATIBLE IN TEXAS ON ITEMIZED DEDUCTIONS

Which fees on the registration receipt can I add to the car registration dedications ? Is it ok to put the bridge and road fees, child safety fund, inspection fee, process and handling, and registration fee? Turbo Tax prompted me to include the registration fees in the deduction section. However when I read further details after inquiring about this - It shows registration fees aren't deductible in Texas. Does Turbo Tax automatically remove the registration deductions after it realizes I live in Texas before filing?

    No, TurboTax will not remove deductions you have entered based on your state of residence.  

     

    There is not a car registration fee or personal property tax that can be claimed for registering a vehicle in Texas.  The other fees you mentioned are also not a tax deduction.  If you did enter those as part of your return, then you should revisit that section and delete those entries.
