I am in Florida and hurricane Milton destroyed 13 trees and a gutter on our garage.  The cleanup and repairs amounted to a large cost.  I was not reimbursed by my insurance company.  Can I use form 4684 to take a credit off of my 2024 return?

It depends. ‌According to: What if I have property that was lost or damaged (a casualty loss)? you may be able to deduct the cost of damage and cleanup, if you live in a federally declared disaster area. For Hurricane Milton, most of Florida qualifies, but Jefferson County and west doesn't. ‌Check if your county is included in the federally declared disaster area here: Designated Areas: Disaster 4834

To claim the deduction in TurboTax Online:

    1. Upon opening TurboTax, choose Deductions & Credits

    2. Scroll to Other Deductions and Credits

    3. Start/Revisit "Disasters, theft, and other property loss or damage"

    4. The interview will ask you questions to report the loss

I have done all of your suggestions but I got a message saying that Turbo Tax hasn't upgraded their program to the from necessary to handle the hurricane .

The form (4684) is tentatively scheduled to be ready for filing after 02/20.   You can check the availability with the tool in this TurboTax FAQ.   You can complete the form now in TurboTax, but you will need to wait to file until the form is finalized.

The disaster code for Hurricane Milton is DR-4834.   On the screen that asks about special tax treatment, choose the first option - This event qualifies as a Federally declared major qualified disaster loss.  Then proceeds through the interview to report your hurricane loss.
