Question

Electric charger credit: if your house was just built, can you use nearby house to determine the GEOID?

In 2024, we bought a house that was just built. After taking ownership, we installed at Tesla charger. Since the house is new, our address does not appear in the 2020 census info. However, our neighboring houses that are across the street are older and they appear there. Can we use their GEOID (which seems to cover the entire neighborhood)?

Also, we don't have a permit # b/c that isn't required by electricians so can we leave that field blank?

Thanks!

Yes, your GEOID should be the same as your neighbors as long as you are in the same district and county.  If you are on the line of a county or township and they are in a different county or township, you would not be able to use theirs as it would be different.

Thank you! Is the permit/certification number required? We have receipt for the charger and from the electrician but don’t see any permit or certification number

No.  If you do not have a permit number, you will just leave that blank
