How do I deduct the value of food donations to a non-profit pantry?

These are food items for people, like cereal, canned fruits, rice, pasta, etc.

You have to determine the value of the products and deduct a dollar amount - no, the food pantry can't/won't do that for you.

Go to a grocery store or bring up some prices online and just use those.

Then go to Itemized Deductions (Schedule A) and enter some charitable contributions.
