Hi, thank you in advance to anyone giving me information 😊. Okay, so last year my daughter who lives in my home with her children as a single mom began receiving cashaid, foodstamps, & medical for herself as well as my 2 grandchildren but in order for her to qualify she has to participate in school or part-time work therefore i became the childcare provider (babysitter). I've been getting paid monthly by the state & i know i have to apply that as "self employment" when i file, though i am not sure if i can still claim my grandchildren as dependents. Can someone please help me so i can file properly without any penalties. Not sure if this information changes anything but i also do have a fulltime job.

To claim the children as your dependent, a couple of requirements would be that they would have to live with you for more than half the year and you would have to furnish over half of their support. Also, they cannot qualify as your daughter's dependent.

You can read this TurboTax article to learn more. If you think they may qualify, you can enter them in TurboTax and the program will ask you questions to help determine their status as your dependent.
