How do I find the depreciation/fixed asset schedule that TurboTax has created for rental properties showcasing the accumulated depreciation and history of assets bought?
How do I find the depreciation/fixed asset schedule that TurboTax has created for rental properties showcasing the accumulated depreciation and history of assets bought?
Look for Form 4562 in your tax return (a sideways page).
A Depreciation and Amortization report is generated each tax year that you use TurboTax which lists all assets for the business or rental property that you have entered.
Or if you are reporting the business use of a vehicle for the current tax year on page 2 of the form.
Since you're using the online version of Turbotax, forms mode is not available to you. Therefore, after you complete the return, pay your filing fee (so you can save it in PDF format) and download the saved PDF file, you'll find what you need in the PDF.
There will be two IRS Form 4562's related to that rental property. Both print in landscape format. One is titled "Depreciation & Amortization Report" and that's most likely the one you're interested in. That shows the list of assets, date the asset was placed in service, cost basis of that asset, the total of all prior year's depreciation taken, and the current year's depreciation.
hi Carl! thanks for the detailed answer .. but i cannot find the second document .. the spreadsheet which shows the "Depreciation and Amortization Report"
Thank you! Why do they make it so hard to find these things?!
A user mentioned this above, but the exact steps as of March 2024 are:
1. Navigate to "Tax Home"
2. Scroll to the bottom and click on "Your tax returns & documents" to expand the options
3. For the year you're interested in, click "Amend (change) XXXX return." XXXX represents the year in question
4. Confirm by clicking "Amend using TurboTax Online"
5. On the next screen, look to the tool bar on the left side of the window. There should be an option for "Tax Tools." Click this to expand options, then click "Print Center"
6. Click "Print, save or preview this year's return"
7. Select the checkbox for Federal return (and any other return you want to save), plus the option to "Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional)"
Once you save and open the pdf, you should be able to control+find the depreciation table
