Letter from State of Georgia says 2021 calculated tax is incorrect, done by TurboTax

Beware all:  Received a letter today that states my 2021 Georgia calculated tax, which by the way was calculated by the TurboTax CD Premium Version, is incorrect.  The only number incorrect on my return is the calculated tax and as you know the software calculates the tax due, not the person using the TT software. I do not calculate the tax. You download the TT state and it pulls all your numbers instantly from your federal return. I attempted to let TT know of the issue and the support line personnel struggled to even understand the problem, kept calling the State of Georgia Department of Revenue the IRS.  I had to tell the individual the State of Georgia is not the IRS. I just gave up trying to explain the issue to the individual.

Had you been running updates on your TT CD?  I am also flagging your post so that the Moderator sees it.

Every time I open the TT it would check for updates. So yes I was uptodate with the TT updates.

On the Georgia Form 500 the taxable income is on Line 15c and the tax on the taxable income is on Line 16.  What was incorrect with this calculation?

The TurboTax Georgia software uses the Tax Tables or the Tax Rate Schedule from the Georgia IT-511 Tax Booklet.

I have the same issue with California tax calculated by TT was not accepted by Ca Franchise tax board and I am being asked to pay additional tax plus penalty.  Did you ever get any resolution from TT reps?

TTax responded and that you can see in the question area. In calling,  I could not get through to anyone but their 1st line responders who I question even knew anything about taxes.  When the person I was speaking to kept calling the State of Georgia the IRS I knew I was talking to the wall.  If you do not know the difference between a state and the IRS why are you answering questions.  I gave up which I believe is what they want you to do.  My feeling TT is not what it used to be, an exception tax filing program. You used to be able to call in and speak with seasoned tax responders who did not give you incorrect answers and they actually knew the program.

I think their response to you is probably an auto generated response wanting you to purchase their Audit Defense and their question asking for the letter reference number which I believe is only on IRS letters, not on a state letter is not applicable to a state return.  When I called they asked me for the IRS reference letter number and I kept saying this is from the state of Georgia, not the IRS.

What was the result of this? Did you have to pay? I recently filed my 2023 tax return and when I check on the refund, it said they determined I was not owed a refund and that a letter was sent to me. I have not received the letter yet.

We appealed, providing all of our 2021 IRS documents showing our AGI was approved by the IRS. And after many months they have not provided a determination instead they say they will take our 2024 refund and then refund us if they find they are wrong. I am seeking a CPA for advice.

I have the same issue. Georgia has come back and say I owe my refund plus what the actual Tax due is owed which is about a $2945 payment due now.

On the Georgia Form 500 your taxable income is on Line 15c and the tax on the taxable income is on Line 16.

The notice/letter you received from the state of Georgia has to give you information on what was changed on your Form 500 to result in the taxes owed.  To have your taxes owed increase there had to be an increase in your taxable income which was not reported on your Georgia tax return Form 500 that was filed.

    What does the notice/letter say?
