Hi There,

I work in md and live in NJ, I understand that I need to ask my employer to withhold md state tax for me at nonresident rate. But do I need to also let them withhold my local tax for md? In this case, do I owe local tax to md as a nonresident?

Nonresidents are not subject to local taxes for Maryland.  The amounts are typically paid on an individual tax return for residents on Form 502 and are shown on line 28. However, nonresident file taxes on Form 505 and no local taxes are due with the filing of a nonresident return.

Please see the section titled "Local Income Tax Rates" in this link from Maryland for more details.
