Why is my solar refunds split between 2023 and 2024?

My full refund for solar installed in 2023 has been split between 2023 and 2024 taxes. Why am I not getting the refund all at once?

Look at your 1040 line 22.  So as long as Line 22 is more than the credit, you'll get the whole credit back.  Line 22 can't be reduced to below zero, which means any credit not used would be carried over to the next year.
